Abstract

This research tends to describe how the pattern of intercultural communication occurs in Girikerto Village. The purpose of this study is to analyze the practice of what communication patterns are used by the community in Girikerto Village to create harmony in the midst of diversity. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach to produce data in the form of descriptive or verbal data from observed sources and theories related to intercultural communication, one of which uses Face Negotiation Theory and communication patterns. This type of research is a fieldresearch that uses research techniques in the form of participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The resource persons came from Girikerto community leaders, such as the Girikerto Village Head, cultural figures, and representatives of each religious figure. The results of this study are the patterns of intercultural communication practiced by the Girikerto people are chain communication patterns, star communication patterns, and linear communication patterns. The chain communication pattern is the process of delivering information from one person and then forwarded to others, while the star communication pattern is the delivery of information that exchanges opinions and views by prioritizing mutual respect and respect for each other. And linear communication is a type of communication obtained from a leader or influential figure as a communicator to its members or persuasive communicant. These various forms of communication patterns have an impact on the creation of inter-religious harmony in Girikerto Village, Turi District, Sleman Regency, D.I. Yogyakarta.
