Abstract

The concept of competitive Islamic education according to Mahmud Yunus, he wants madrasah education graduates not inferior to education graduates who study in schools that have advanced, even madrasah education graduates are of better quality than Dutch schools. But Madrasah is currently experiencing lag due to the low quality of madrasah education, it is because the implementation of education is not considered in the process stage. Based on the above presentation, the purpose of research is set as follows: to describe competitive Islamic education according to Mahmud Yunus, to find out the relevance of the concept of Islamic education according to Mahmud Yunus to Madrasah education in Indonesia. This research is a type of qualitative research which is included in library research using a philosophical approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation on other primary and secondary data. While the data analysis technique of this research uses content analysis, which is a scientific technique to study and draw conclusions or a phenomenon by utilizing documents. The results of the study are presented according to the formulation and objectives of the problem as follows: First, the concept of competitive Islamic education by Mahmud Yunus is that Mahmud Yunus prepares students so that when they grow up they are able and capable of doing worldly work and the practice of the hereafter, so as to create happiness in the world and the hereafter. according to Mahmud Yunus they must be educated to work in one area of life such as farming, trading, raising livestock, carpentry, being a teacher and so on. On the other hand, so that children are capable of carrying out the afterlife practices, they must be educated to have a strong, firm faith and do good deeds, therefore they must be taught faith, morality, because the main purpose of education is morals. The concept of Mahmud Yunus' competitive Islamic education and madrasah education in Indonesia has relevance, namely, in terms of educational goals, curriculum, methods, morals and ethics of educators.
