Abstract
This research is motivated by the continued lack of professionalism among educators in carrying out the learning process. This is marked by the limited ability and success of teachers in teaching. As we know, educators are the spearhead of educational success in Indonesia. Similarly, the success of Islamic religious education in schools depends on the success of educators' competence in teaching. One effort to improve and enhance teacher competence is thru academic supervision. The PAI supervisor plays a strategic role in improving the competence of PAI teachers, as the supervisor acts as a supervisor with the obligation to assist and guide PAI teachers. Therefore, the importance of academic supervision management as a strategy to ensure that supervision or guidance runs systematically, purposefully, and sustainably, from the aspects of planning, organizing, implementing, and following up on supervision. So that the implementation of academic supervision truly helps teachers improve their competence. This study aims to determine (1) the academic supervision management implemented by PAI supervisors in Cangkringan District, (2) analyze the impact of supervisors' academic supervision on developing PAI teacher competence, and (3) identify the obstacles faced by supervisors in implementing academic supervision. This research uses a qualitative research type with a case study approach. Data was collected thru: (1) Observation, which was conducted three times, (2) Interviews with the PAI supervisor of Cangkringan District, four elementary school PAI teachers in Cangkringan District, and the Head of the PAI KKG of Cangkringan District, (3) Documentation supporting the research theme. The research findings indicate: First, the academic supervision management carried out by PAI supervisors is implemented thru the stages of planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating and following up. However, its implementation has not been optimal and systematic, particularly in the implementation of classroom visits, which have largely been shifted to mentoring thru the Teacher Working Group (KKG) PAI forum. Academic supervision is more dominantly carried out in groups, while individual supervision thru classroom observation is still limited. Supervision evaluation and follow-up tend to be general and collective, so contextual learning support in the classroom is not yet optimal. Second, the impact of the supervisor's academic supervision affects PAI teachers. Thru academic supervision, teachers show an increase in pedagogical, professional, social, personality, and leadership competencies. Third, obstacles in implementing the supervisor's academic supervision of PAI teachers include the large number of schools under the supervisor's guidance, which makes coaching less effective; supervisory visits are not evenly distributed, so supervision is not carried out evenly. As a solution, this research proposes strengthening collaborative supervision thru the KKG PAI (Islamic Education Teacher Working Group) integrated with selective classroom observations as an effort to provide more targeted, contextual, and sustainable teacher development.
