Abstract

Today the communication model has a great impact on the mentoring process and also on the empowerment process. As has been done by the Muhammadiyah Social Service Council, the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership for the Special Region of Yogyakarta in mentoring and empowering the elderly through the Muhammadiyah Senior Care (MSC) program to create independent, prosperous and happy elderly. This study aims to analyze how the communication model of the Muhammadiyah Social Service Council in implementing the elderly service program and the impact of the communication model used in empowering the elderly. The research was conducted using qualitative methods at the Muhammadiyah Social Service Council of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The results showed that the communication model used by the Social Service Council in the Muhammadiyah Senior Care (MSC) program was to use a democratic communication model. The Social Service Council builds communication using psychological, social and spiritual approaches. The first is to be a good listener, the second is to invite potential elderly people, the third is to build emotional closeness, the fourth is to appreciate the efforts of the elderly, the fifth is not to patronize, and the sixth is not to push. The impact of the democratic communication model built by the Social Services Council in the psychological aspect review, firstly, it increases the optimism of the elderly, and secondly, it builds the confidence of the elderly. The first social impact is to create harmony in the elderly's family, second is to raise awareness of the elderly in participating, and third is to increase the competitiveness of the elderly. The impact on the spiritual condition of the elderly firstly strengthens Islamic brotherhood, secondly increases the spirit of worship.
