Abstract

The background of this research is the rise of moral crisis in nowadays education world. The reality shows that children’s behavior is getting worse. From this background of the problem, SMK Ma’arif Kota Mungkid puts an effort to anticipate the decline of students’ moral which is caused by both the students themselves and the environment by applying character education through Islamic education in the school environment. Along with this condition, it is necessary to conduct a review to find out the character education process implemented in this school and the implementation of habituation and culture in school. In learning activities and outside of learning, the teacher’s role is to filter negative influences as well as instilling student character by Islamic religius education values, it will be able to evercome the above problems. So the purposes of this study are : (1)know the process of character education by Islamic education in vocational high School Ma’arif Mungkid Magelang, (2)know implementation Islamic education in educating and strengthening character of student high School Ma’arif Mungkid Magelang. This is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The methods used to collect the data were in-depth interview, passive participation observation, and documentation. The sources of the data in this research were the principal, educators or teachers, students and parents of the students. The data analysis technique was carried out through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/data verification. The test of data validity was done through theoretical analysis of the perspective of Islamic Religious Education. The result of the research showed that: First, the form of habituation to educate character as a good attitude that is applied in SMK Ma’arif Kota Mungkid Magelang in the form of rules in the school environment includes: form of behavior, courtesy and moral at school. Second, the implementation of character education for students as characters and habits have already been effective and good. With a good change in students’ behavior both to the teachers and fellow students includes: polite attitude of the students when they meet the teachers by greeting, students’ attitude in speaking, listening and behaving in the school environment with courtesy, respect and appreciate for each other, as well as the decrease of bad behavior and bad ethics on students’ selves. As for the analysis of Islamic Education in character education at school as a form of education in Islam that imitates the nature and the attitude of the Prophet Muhammad, as mentioned in the word of Allah SWT that Allah SWT sent the Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Prophet and Apostle as well as being uswatun hasanah (a good role model) for his people. As for the theoretical analysis of Islamic Religious Education in the implementation of Character Education on the attitudes and behavior of students in schools, it can reduce the previously unfavorable traits of students into good habits, character, and manner.
