Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-concept and achievement motivation on adolescents of “X” orphanage Yogyakarta. The number of samples taken in this study were 80 adolescents obtained by random sampling. This research uses a quantitative method with a scale of achievement motivation from McClelland (1987) and self-concept scale from Dariyo (2011) as a data collection tool. Data analysis used is the Pearson product moment analysis technique. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between self-concept and achievement motivation on adolescent orphanages with correlation coefficient r = 0.623 and p = 0.000 (p <0.05). This means that the more positive self-concept a teenager, the higher the achievement motivation. Conversely, the more negative the self-concept, the lower the achievement motivation. The value of R square (r2) obtained is 0.388, which means that the effective contribution of self-concept to achievement motivation is 38.8%
