Abstract

The prevalence of contemporary issues such as radicalism, terrorism, racism, multiculturalism, and moral degradation today has the potential to divide society and cause an identity crisis. When these issues are not given serious attention, society will be prone to misunderstanding religion and will be trapped in extreme thinking, which will ultimately trigger social conflict. In this situation, Al-Washliyah is expected to play a role in addressing these challenges through the various strategies it possesses. Therefore, this study aims to analyze and describe the role and strategies of PB Al-Washliyah in addressing contemporary issues in society through Islamic education. This research is a descriptive qualitative research using a case study approach. Data collection methods used in this research include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity testing in this study used triangulation techniques. Data analysis techniques were carried out through three stages, namely data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The informants of this research totalled 2 people as representatives of PB Al-Washliyah. The results showed, 1) PB Al-Washliyah has a firm attitude and serious attention to contemporary issues developing in society such as radicalism, terrorism, racism, multiculturalism, and moral degradation. PB Al-Washliyah firmly rejects all forms of violence and coercion in the name of religion. 2) PB Al-Washliyah in dealing with contemporary issues takes two roles, namely by becoming one of the centres of Islamic education, as well as being a link, both connecting humans with other humans, and connecting humans with their God through Islamic guidance and education. 3) PB Al-Washliyah has various strategies in dealing with these contemporary issues through Islamic education, the strategies implemented by PB Al-Washliyah include strengthening moderate Islamic education, utilising social media to serve as a means of da'wah and education, spreading da'wah through the role of da'i to the community, conducting studies on contemporary issues with the Al-Washliyah fatwa council, and building the character and morals of the nation through formal education.
