Abstract

Creating a good education cannot be separated from the selection of teaching strategies. Choosing the right strategy can improve the quality of education. The Principals as stakeholders in educational institutions should be required to choose the right strategy in carrying out their duties, because the task of a leader in the educational institution is not only capable of mobilizing and organizing people, but also play a role to change the students' personality to be better and can compete with the other students. Islamic culture is everything that exists and develops in a society in order to realize and preserve Islamic values. Islamic culture is very necessary to be imparted to the students because it‟s a reflection for those who believe in Islam. So that in the end they will be treasured by God. The focus and purpose of this research are: 1) to find out the reasons of maintaining the quality of Islamic education, 2) to describe the principal's strategy in maintaining the quality of education of Islamic culture, 3) to determine the contribution of Islamic culture on the students‟ achievement. The type of this research is a field research by using analytical descriptive qualitative analysis. Determination of the sources is done by the snowballing sampling technique. Data collection is through observation, interview and documentation. While testing the validity by using triangulation data. The results of this study indicate that 1) the reason of SMPN 1 Selong maintaining the quality of cultured Islamic education is not only because the government regulation, but also because this school is a reference school in East Lombok, therefore so many programs provided by the government with regard to the strengthening of character education. 2) A strategy that Principal use in order to maintaining the quality of education of Islamic culture is persuasive strategy. 3) The contribution of the persuasive strategy in the education process is the students often get awards both at the district and provincial level, even they often represent NTB at the national level. such as; Mathematic Competition, Sains Competition, Social Sain Competition and also the non academic competitions.
