Abstract

Kabupaten Sleman is one of the fruit production centers with many horticultural plants cultivation. The fruit and vegetable crops are the part of horticultural plants that often experience attacks from the fruit fly. The female fruit fly will inject its eggs into the plants with its ovipositor. The eggs will hatch and will become larva that will eat the flesh of the plants, so the larva will cause the plants to be rotten and this being rotten will cause any losses either qualitatively or quantitatively. The aim of the research is to find out the species of fruit fly that attack many various fruits and vegetables in Kabupaten Sleman. The research belongs to an explorative one with descriptive method by using purposive sampling. The fruits and the vegetables being attacked by the fruit fly in Kabupaten Sleman are guava, dalhari guava or water guava, mango, star fruit, cashew, bitter melon and melinjo. From the imago identification by using host rearing method, the researcher has obtained 5 species of fruit fly from genus of Bactrocera namely Bactrocera (Zeugodacus) cucurbitae (Coquillett), Bactrocera (Bulladacus) mogregori (Bezzi), Bactrocera (Bactrocera) carambolae (Drew and Hancock), Bactrocera (Bactrocera) papayae (Drew and Hancock) and Bactrocera (Bactrocera) albistrigata (de Meijere). Bactrocera carambolae and Bactrocera papayae are the mostly found and the mostly damaging fruit fly species.
