Abstract

Previous narratives about pesantren women who do not have a strategic position are the background of this research. This study wants to examine the phenomenon of Islamic boarding school women who have a massive movement in the area of community welfare. In simple terms, this research wants to examine four women or Nyai who have different concentrations of fields and move massively. Also, the conditions are different from the previous narratives regarding the limitations of pesantren women. The method used in this research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The objects of this research are four female figures or Nyai who have concrete roles in the area of community welfare, namely Nyai Umdatul Choirot, Nyai Hindun Anisah, Nyai Nissa Wargadipura, Nyai Ida Fatimah Zainal. The data mining technique used was observation at three Islamic boarding schools as residences for the Nyai as the object of research and interviews with the Nyai and supporting resource persons. This study also uses documentation data collection techniques to obtain comprehensive data. The analysis in this study was carried out with the help of Pierre Bourdieu's theory of Genetic Structuralism and the concept of empowerment strategy. The results of this study when formulated on three major points; First, the four Nyai studied in this study have agency. The agency that is born in each Nyai becomes a concrete action that leads to the welfare of the wider community, especially the pesantren environment. second, in the process of implementing empowerment to achieve the welfare agenda, the Nyai have implemented various empowerment strategies. Third, the movements born of the Nyai are influenced by several things such as habit, capital and realm. These are the things that are then optimized by the Nyai to face the various challenges that arise in the process of organizing the welfare agenda.
