Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of electronic jornals in the library of Gadjah Mada University. Seen from this type of research include descriptive quantitative research approach, because the original data in the form of questions will be converted into numbers using the Likert Scale response categories consisted of four alternative answers. The number of samples in this study were 99 people of the total number of students at the University of Gadjah Mada listed as an active member until the academic year 2012, amounting to 14 231 people. The research site is in the Library of the University of Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta. Variable in this study is the use of a single electronic journals based on two factors: internal factors such as motives, interests and needs, and external factors such as the completeness of the collection, librarian skills in serving pemustaka, and availability search again. To obtain valid data, the authors used multiple data collection techniques, namely, observation, questionnaires, interviews and documentation. Data analysis using descriptive formula percentage. Based on the data that has been processed known research results indicate that, the use of electronic journals in the Library of the University of Gadjah Mada in the high category is equal to 65.67%. Variable utilization of the electronic journals, the indicators that have the highest values are indicators of need that is equal to 76.45%, and the indicator of the skills of librarians at 72.13%, 69.17% facility availability indicator, the indicator motive 64.88%, completeness indicator collection of 62.87%, and the indicator has its lowest value at 48.72% interest. Library of the University of Gadjah Mada, in the procurement process journal collection, in particular electronic journal, it should be more considering the needs of users, so the collection is owned by the library may suit the user's needs, thus it is expected to increase interest in the use of electronic journals by students at the Library of the University of Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta.
