Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the representation of libraries in the animated film "Josee the Tiger and the Fish," with an emphasis on library concept research and librarian attitudes. This research utilised Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis method in the context of a library and concentrates on the theory of two-stage significance (two orders of signification). The animated movie Joe the Tiger and the Fish serves as the research's subject, and the library's representation serves as the research's object. Observation and documentation are used as data collection strategies. The Josee the Tiger and the Fish movie clip serves as the main source of information, whereas journals, blu-rays, and other sources serve as secondary sources. The research's results are as follows: 1) The library concept represented in the Josee the Tiger and the Fish Animated Film is a public library that has optimized the location, lighting, temperature, space, and humidity of the air, but it still falls short in terms of physical accessibility to people with disabilities and noise reduction. The library in the film is based on the Minoh City Central Library in Osaka, Japan. The library is described as being visited by people of all ages and backgrounds and as a place where people can grow to achieve their goals. The library already has adequate facilities and services; 2) the librarian's attitude toward all users is described as friendly, polite, and communicative, so that introverted users can finally become better people.
