Abstract

In 1624, the Mataram forces managed to win the battle against the Madura forces so that thay could control the entire Madura region. At that time, all that was left was one of the sons of the ruler of Madura region named Raden Praseno. He had the status of a prisioner of war who was handed over to Sultan Agung, King of Mataram. After Madura was conquered, Sultan Agung wanted a ruler to lead the Madura people, a kingdom was established and appointed Raden Praseno as king of Madura with the title Cakraningrat I, his palace was in Madegan Sampang. Cakraningrat I was the ruler or king of Madura whose territory covered the whole of Madura. The Government system implemented mostly uses the Mataram government system. The kingdom was only able to survive from 1624 to 1680. This is because in 1680 AD this kingdom broke up into two fiefdoms, namely West Madura and East Madura. This research focuses on discussing the Madura kingdom in Madegan Sampang which was established in 1624 to 1680. The problems discussed in this study include: what is the history of the establishment of the Madura kingdom in Madegan Sampang? How is the development of Madura kingdom in Madegan Sampang? How is the end of the Madura kingdom in Madegan Sampang. This study uses a political approach in order to provide an overview of the founding process, its development and the cause of the breakup of the kingdom Madura in Madegan Sampang in 1624-1680 AD. This study uses the theory of cycles proposed by Ibn Khaldun to help analyze the stages of events that occurred in the kingdom of Madura in Madegan Sampang. This research is a literature research and the method used is the historical method, it is a process of critically examining and analyzing records and relics in the past based on the data collected by steps: heuristics, criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results of the study found the fact that: before the establishment of the Madura kingdom in Madegan Sampang in 1624, in Sampang there had been a change of several government from unstructured to structured government. Mataram managed to control Madura and Sultan Agung decided Raden Praseno to hold power in Madura. Raden Praseno became the ruler in Madura with the title Cakraningrat I, he also had a stint in Mataram and his government in Madura was commanded from Mataram. Cakraningrat I died and was succeeded by his son with the title Cakraningrat II but the people did not feel peace as was the case during the reign of Cakraningrat I so that there were rebellions everywhere and Mataram which was the head of the Madura kingdom also had a complicated conflit so that in 1680 Madura was separated from Mataram and the government in Madura broke up into West Madura and East Madura.
