Abstract

The incident of the Taliban occupation of Kabul has become a hot topic of discussion among researchers and international media. This can be seen in various media headlines that feature headlines about the fall of Kabul in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021. The national media also reported it with various framing models that were influenced by the company, editorial system, media values/ideology and also the journalists. Kompas, one of the largest media outlets in Indonesia, was among those reporting the incident. Seeing Kompas' coverage of Afghanistan is also important because of its enormous influence. Kompas, for example, is one of the many print media that has survived in the digital era in addition to Republika, Media Indonesia and The Jakarta Post. Among these print media, Kompas is the oldest media with a long history. This research itself uses a qualitative descriptive method. The analysis was conducted using Robert Entman's model of framing analysis, with the basic assumption that there is always a selection of issues and highlighting aspects in the news. This is done by defining the problem (diagnose causes), identifying the cause of the problem (causal interpretation), making a moral judgment (moral judgment), and providing a solution (treatment recommendation). With this analytical model, this study analyzes the construction of Kompas reporting related to the fall of Kabul during August 2021, the month of the conquest of Kabul by the Taliban in Afghanistan. The conclusion of the researcher, Kompas focuses on humanitarian issues. This media publishes news that ignites readers' sympathy such as the evacuation process, the crisis situation in Afghanistan, and the impact of the Taliban occupation in Afghanistan on civilians and women.
