Abstract

This research was motivated by finding problems related to lack of confidence in class XII students at MAN 2 Yogyakarta related to learning outcomes, continuing to college, and so on. The discovery of these problems raises questions regarding how high their optimism is, so this study aims to determine the relationship between optimism and self-confidence of class XII students at MAN 2 Yogyakarta. This research is a quantitative research with a correlation approach. To find out the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable, this study took a sample of 80 students from 236 populations using quota sampling technique. After collecting data through questionnaires, then hypothesis testing was carried out using the Pearson product moment with the help of SPSS 22 for windows. The results of the analysis show that the hypothesis that there is a relationship between optimism and self-confidence is acceptable, meaning that there is a very significant positive relationship between optimism and self-confidence in class XII students of MAN 2 Yogyakarta with a correlation coefficient of 0.735, and shows a very high correlation value with a score of 0.735. p = 0.000 < 0.01 which means that a high score of optimism will be followed by a high score of self-confidence, and vice versa, a low score of optimism will be followed by a low score of self-confidence.
