Abstract

Based on the results of research conducted by researchers, Dota 2 is the most popular Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game in the world, the number of players and the community formed makes the game Dota 2 unavoidable from toxic behavior. Toxic behavior in the game Dota 2 has become a common thing to do. This is due to the many internal and external factors that affect Dota 2 game players. There are various observations in terms of cyberspace, virtual communities, interactivity, hypertext and multimedia regarding the toxic behavior that occurs in the Dota 2 game. The purpose of this study is to explain how to determine toxic behavior in the in-game chat feature as a virtual communication for Dota 2 online game players. This type of research is a virtual ethnographic study and using Computer-mediated Communication (CMC) theory. Data was obtained from observations and interviews with 8 (eight) Dota 2 game players with different rank levels. This research will describe the toxic behavior that occurs between Dota 2 players.
