Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of marital adjustment in women who remarried with partners of different aes (husband is younger than wife) and the factors that influence it. This research used a qualitative study with the method of Phenomenology. The data collection was performed using interview and observation methods on three women who remarried with partners of different ages. The result of this study indicate that the description of marrital adjustment in the three informant is different. The firs informant tend to have less uderstanding about household matters, intimacy and closeness tend to have less, but the communication that is established is quite effective. The first informant also had enough satisfaction, often disagreed but the informant and husband tried ro understand each other. In addition, the firs informant was also satisfied in showing the expression affection, nameli by deed and service. The second informant tends to have less understanding in household matters. Closeness and intimacy are good, often spend time together. The second informant has also achieved satisfaction, the communication is quite effective and has a commitment to maintain the marriage. The second informan was satisfied in showing the exppression of affection, both verbal and dees. While the third informant tends to already have an understanding in household matters. Closeness and intimacy is good, often spending time and doing activities together. The third informant is also satisfied with his marriage and has a commitment to maintain the integrity of the marriage. In addition, the third informan was also satisfied in showing expression affection, both with action and service. The factors that influence marrital adjustment include love and attitude towards marriage, support from family, friends and neighbors and the desire to maintain the household.
