Abstract

This study discusses the portrait of the value of multiculturalism in the practice of managing the General Sudirman Mosque Library. The purpose of this study is to find out the reasons for the need for the value of multiculturalism in governance in the library, photograph the value of multiculturalism and analyze the ideological reality in the practice of managing the Library of the Sudirman Mosque. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling technique. Furthermore, data collection techniques use the method of observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman interactive model which consists of three stages of the process, namely: data reduction, data display (data display), and verification and conclusion drawing. The data validity test uses credibility using triangulation. The results of this study indicate four important issues, namely: (1) The urgency of the value of multiculturalism present in the practice of governance makes libraries agents of culture (agent of cultural) through collections compiled from various human cultural works and libraries as agents of social control (agent of social control). ) through cultural dialogue that occurs between all elements and actors in the library (2) Governance practices carried out by the Jendral Sudirman Mosque Library include two main types of activities, namely technical services, and user services. Technical services are carried out through several stages, namely: (a) planning activities; (b) collection development activities; (c) library material processing activities, and (d) maintenance and preservation of library materials. Meanwhile, user services are implemented through several service activity programs such as circulation services, reference services, periodical or serial publication services, and information literacy services. (3) The portrait of the value of multiculturalism in the practice of managing the General Sudirman Mosque library reflects the value of inclusiveness (openness), the value of prioritizing dialogue (active), the value of tolerance, the value of justice (democracy), and the value of equality and brotherhood (egalitarian). (4) Jendral Sudirman Mosque has an ideological basis for modernism through its affiliation with the Muhammadiyah religious organization. The practice of managing the Jendral Sudirman Mosque is open to different ideologies, including library users.
