Abstract

The tradition of honest money applies to the groom to the woman. However, not all grooms have a well-established economy and the party costs are quite large. This becomes an obstacle for the groom to get married and causes psychological disturbances for men to the high amount of honest money that must be given as spending money to the woman. The purpose of this study was to describe the practice of honest money by the Banjar community in Tembilahan Hulu Village, Tembilahan Hulu District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau and the psychological impact on prospective grooms on the practice of honest money by the Banjar community in the Tembilahan Hulu subdistrict, Tembilahan Hulu District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau. This research uses qualitative research with descriptive method. Research data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The results showed that the implementation of giving honest money in marriage customs in Tembilahan Hulu Sub-district, Tembilahan Hulu District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau was carried out through several stages. The results of this study explain that the meaning of honest money for brides and grooms in Tembilahan Hulu Village, Tembilahan Hulu District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau has the view that honest money is very important, seeing the costs that have been owned since the past that have been passed down from generation to generation until now are still maintained. and does not rule out the possibility that honest money itself will experience an increase in nominal value, considering the lives of the people of Tembilahan District themselves, who on average have thought ahead and hold a very high character of siri' (shame). When talking about honest money, in people's ears it is the amount of money spent. The psychological impact experienced by youth in Tembilahan District due to high honest money, the first is stress and anxiety, the stress experienced by men in this case makes their behavior negative. In addition, the psychological impact felt by men is anxiety, the anxiety experienced raises concerns about the future being able to marry and build a household or stay alone and single. However, other sources found it as a source of motivation and a means of getting closer to God.
