Abstract

This dissertation analyzes the instillation of peace culture at school. Taking place at three high schools – SMAN 1, SMAN 7 and SMKN 3 – in Purworejo, the research was conducted for one year, from July 2018 to June 2019. Thirty-four Rohis activists, eight Islamic teachers, and three principals involved in the interview to collect data. Programs and activities of Rohis were observed, and the reports were documented. The results show that peace culture mainstreaming is influenced by the school atmosphere and culture, the involved actors and the school-sown values. To run the mainstreaming program, two ways taken by Rohis are preventing intolerant teaching from infiltration and introducing new knowledge construction. The eight peace-culture characters were instilled to introduce the new construction. The patterns of character education instillation process were (1) Rohis’ problem identification; (2) peace culture atmosphere redesign; (3) instilled value selection; (4) in-coming value limitation; (5) new knowledge construction; (6) peace-culture Rohis formation. At the end, the eight peace-culture characters were successfully internalized in the activists of Rohis’ mind in the three high schools but faith and fairness values.
