Abstract

This study aims to identify the effort to reconcile two opposite ideologies: Anarchy and Islam in The Taqwacores (2010). It tells the struggle of a group of Muslims who seek their places in society and religion. Through punk music, they dare to show their true identities and face the flow of the existing social orders. The researcher discovered intriguing things in their numerous terrible portrayals, where even if they did deviations, they still had Islamic values in their actions. This research deserved to be done because it identified issues in society that emerged nowadays. The researcher reveals the good values of taqwacore which show that they deserve to be equal in society. This is a qualitative research that aplies the Representation theory from Stuart Hall and Mise-en-scene theory by Ed Sikov as a film theory. The result of the study concluded that the main character Jehangir dies at the end, which symbolizes the failure of the reconciliation efforts. This effort is the absurdities that manifested in the wrong application of Islamic laws and values.
