Abstract

Resilience is an individual's ability to rise, survive and adapt to the pressures experienced. The same goes for someone who suffers from chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2016 the number of people with diabetes mellitus was 425 million people worldwide. The addition of numbers continues to occur in the world, as well as in Indonesia. Because it has an impact on the psyche of the patient if he has complications and has acute comorbidities. The resilience of the patient is expected to be able to describe the process of getting up from the severe conditions he experienced. This study aims to see the picture of resilience possessed by people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The research method used by the researcher is a qualitative method and uses a phenomenological study. The selection of participants used a sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. There are three informants in this study, each informant still has a job and is of a productive age. The data analysis technique uses the process of data reduction, data coding, data categorization, data presentation and drawing conclusions or verification. The results showed that the three informants had a different picture of resilience to reach a turning point (reaching out) from the pressure caused by diabetes mellitus. The factors that affect the resilience of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus themselves are divided into protective factors which are factors that support the resilience from the family and tips for patients to carry out routine treatment. Then the risk factors are factors that arise to reduce the resilience of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from within the patient because they face pressure. Thus, it is hoped that this research can provide benefits and contribute to the development of Psychology.
