Abstract

The relationship between religion and science is a very interesting thing to discuss. Mastery of science will make it easier for Muslims to understand the kauniyah verses in the Koran. Islamization of science by Achmad Baiquni as one example of the bridge of the existence of secular science by western nations. It is on the basis of this idea that this paper seeks to know and describe Achmad Baiquni's views on the relationship between religion and science. This research is a qualitativeresearch using the content analysis method. The application of this method is carried out in three steps, namely: (1) Grouping the same subject matter on the object being studied, (2) Examine the ideas of Baiquni based on the grouping and explanations stated in the object of study, then combine with other theories of the relationship of religion and science, (3) Summing up Baiquni's views on the relationship between religion and science based on the results of grouping and comparison. The results of this study found that the relationship between religion and science of Achmad Baiquni is interconnected where believing in the truth of the Koran is a non-negotiable attitude. If science seems to find something that is incompatible with the Koran, there are two possible causes: (1) science has not yet completed its data and all related symptoms have not been revealed so that the conclusions are missed, (2) the understanding of the paragraph in question is not correct. Baiquni's religious and scientific relations use the Tafsir bil ilmi method and are in the style of Islamization of Science. The Islamization of Baiquni science falls within the realm of justification, sacralization and instrumentation. The Islamization of Achmad Baiquni entered into the typology of integration of Ian G Barbour, entered into the approach of confirmation of John F Haught and the realm of sacralization like the idea of Mehdi Golshani known as sacred sciences.
