Abstract

The validation of the RGB color digital image colorimetric method and its application in determination of remazol violet 5R concentration by electrochemical treatment has been done. This study aims to validate the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method and RGB color digital image colorimetric analysis method for determining the concentration of remazol violet 5R dye and examine the results of the comparative test of dye analysis using these two methods, as well as study the effect of electric voltage and time on the electrodegradation process of remazol violet 5R dye. Validation of UV-Vis spectrophotometry and RGB color digital image colorimetric methods were carried out to determine the validity parameters, such as linearity, sensitivity, LOD and LOQ. Remazol violet 5R dye solution was electrolyzed using NaCl electrolyte and carbon electrodes. The study of the effect of electric voltage and time on the electrodegradation process of dyes was carried out through variations of the electric voltage of 6; 9; 12 volts, and time variations of 0-240 seconds. Then analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry and RGB color digital image colorimetric method and a comparative test was carried out. The results of testing the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method obtained a correlation coefficient value of 1, sensitivity of 0,0126, LOD of 0,3478 ppm, and LOQ of 1,1592 ppm. The colorimetric method of RGB color digital images obtained a correlation coefficient of 0,9812, sensitivity of 0,0049, LOD of 10,9059 ppm, and LOQ of 36,3531 ppm. The results showed that both analytical methods had qualified the requirements of good validation for determination the concentration of remazol violet 5R. The results of the t-test showed t-stat<t-critic and a correlation coefficient of 0,9713 in linear regression analysis of the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method, which means that the two methods have no significant difference. Remazol violet 5R dye wastewater treatment using electrochemical method (electrodegradation) was able to reduce dye concentration to 89,96% at a voltage of 9 volts. While the time variation shows the percentage of degradation reaches 73,30% within 240 seconds which the rate of degradation according to pseudo-first order kinetics with a reaction rate constant of 0,0047 seconds-1. This study proves that the RGB color digital image colorimetric method can be used as an alternative method for determining the dye concentration with the Samsung J7 Prime smartphone and the color analysis pro application, as well as the electrochemical method can be used as an effective method for the treatment of dye wastewater
