Abstract

This research starts with the problem that the Bataknese tribes and cultures are famous among non-Muslims people; therefore, how to promote sustainability of integrating cultures into Islamic values is still questionable. Moreover, Bataknese tribes and cultures have marga that is very important to look for clan kinship which is a matchmaking tradition from ancient times until now and in principle the Bataknese clan becomes self-identity. The research aims to describe the form of integration of local wisdom on religious values of the Toba Batak tribe community, the steps for its integration, and its implications in growing community morality. The research was conducted towards the local community at Marjanji village, Aceh of North Sumatra. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative research method. The technique of collecting data in this study was done through the observation technique, interview and documentation. The informants are the village chief, tribal chief of Toba Batak, religious leaders and local society. Those data will be analyzed by the qualitative approach and data validity will be tested using the triangulation technique such as comparing observational data with the results of interviews, then comparing the results of these data with the contents of related documents. The results of this research can be concluded that (1) the form of integration of local wisdom on religious values of Toba Batak tribes community can be obtained through this analysis research (a) aspects of their beliefs (mula jadi na bolon dan samangot ni ompu), (b) knowledge aspects integrating with Islamic Malay style, ( c) the forms of ritual practice (gondang naposo, mangulosi, magokkal holi, fahombo, manortor, dalihan natolu, and marumpasa), (d) aspects of materialized experience (local values and skills), and (e) practice aspect (human resources, decision-making mechanisms, and tribal solidarity). (2) the steps of its integration consist of (a) identifying the traditions of the Batak Toba tribe, (b) maintaining Batak Toba traditions, and (c) developing the traditions of the Batak Toba tribe, and (3) his appreciation of aspects of Batak religiosity, including: (a) fostering values and attitudes of trusts, (b) cultivating values and forgiving attitudes, (c) cultivate values and patient attitudes, and (d) cultivate values and attitudes qonaah.
