Abstract

Social problems are symptoms in the reality of life that arise as a result of people's behavior that is contrary to religious values and other norms, one of which is gambling. Viewed from the point of view of religion, positive law and noble values that develop in society, gambling has a negative meaning because it does more harm than good. But in reality, gambling continues to be popular from time to time. In fact, what is even worse is that young people who are supposed to be agents of change for the better for the community are also increasingly fond of gambling. Therefore, the authors are interested in researching how the pattern of gambling practices among youth and the sociological analysis of Islamic law on the practice of illegal toto gambling in South Klaten District This research is a field research located in the district of South Klaten. This study uses a qualitative research method that is descriptive analytical, with a sociological approach using Max Weber's theory of rationality as an analytical knife. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using three lines of analysis activities that run simultaneously and interactively, namely data reduction, data presentation and data retrieval. The results of the study indicate that the practice of gambling among youth in South Klaten District is still widespread. The existence of lottery gambling is described into several patterns of practice, including: patterns of gambling to gain profit to fulfill needs, patterns of gambling for entertainment, patterns of gambling to try their luck, and patterns of gambling because of easy access to play. The factors are that youths do not comply with the provisions of the prohibition. gambling that is listed both from Islamic law and positive law, including the benefits factor and the player's perception of gambling itself. The results of the study indicate that gambling is included in the category of operant behavior, gambling behavior can be formed, learned from a learning process and prone to being repeated because there are benefits behind the gambling.
