Abstract

The concept of family resilience has been regulated in several regulations, but it is possible that several families have their own criteria for defining and maintaining family resilience. The thing happened to several husbands in Tanjungbalai City. The geographical condition of Tanjungbalai City which is located on the east coast of North Sumatra is the reason why many residents work as fishermen. Meanwhile, working as a sailor a husband and wife have to undergo a distant family relationship. Couples who undergo distant marriages have a tendency to experience divorce. This research was conducted to explore in depth what values the family will use in a long-distance relationship. In addition, to find out how seafarers' families find solutions to conflicts that arise when undergoing long-distance relationships. This research is included in qualitative research with the type of field research. The data collection method used is the interview and documentation method. The primary source is the results of interviews in the form of answers to questionnaires from the families of the whistleblowers. Meanwhile, books, journals, and other references are used to support the data. The researcher will collect all research data, both primary and secondary, then analyze the data using the structural-functional theory of Robert King Merton, and Mubdalam theory of Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir. The result of the study on the values used by seafaring families in maintaining survival, namely: religious values, values of love and affection, economic values, and values of trust. The way the family communicates in dealing with conflicts that occur is far from the wife's profession. First, when the wife works like her husband, there are two ways to deal with conflict in the family, namely by giving in and presenting the in-laws as a mediator. Then for wives who do not work, the methods used in resolving conflicts are patiently waiting, giving understanding, making decisions, and understanding each other's situation.
