Abstract

This research examines the representation of cognitive dissonance through the character Ratih in the film Cinta Subuh (2022). Cognitive dissonance is a psychological discomfort that arises when an individual's beliefs and behaviors are in conflict. Ratih, as a devout urban Muslim woman who understands the prohibition of pacaran with Angga. This study aims to explore how the film conveys th cognitive dissonance through its cinematic and narrative elements. The research method employed is qualitative, utilizing Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis approach. Primary data consisting of 11 scenes depicting Ratih's inner conflict were analyzed through the triadic relationship (representamen, object, and interpretant). Narrative and cinematic elements were employed as units of analysis to dissect the signs that represent cognitive dissonance.
