Abstract

Indonesian society is a heterogeneous society, there are various tribes, nations, religions, customs and cultures in it. In the midst of globalization and modernization, several regions continue to carry out and carry out their respective traditions. One of the blood that continues to perpetuate its tradition is the tradition of Ngebas Jimat, Gegesik Kidul Village, Gegesik District, Cirebon Regency. From this it is interesting for the writer to reveal the meaning of what underlies them to continue to carry out the tradition of Ngebas Jimat every year. In this study, the authors used a qualitative approach with direct observation and interviews in Gegesik Kidul Village, Gegesik District, Cirebon Regency. The results of this study indicate that there are several meanings that form the basis for the Ngebas Jimat ritual such as gratitude, hope, motivation, and others. The functions of the Ngebas Jimat ritual are maintaining community relations, educating the younger generation, preserving ancestral heritage, solidarity and mutual cooperation. It takes awareness and a sense of care for their own traditions and culture so that the Ngebas Jimat ritual is carried out every year.
