Abstract

This research departs from the phenomenon of pluralism in society and also the rapid development of information technology so that it needs to be managed properly to disseminate information and strengthen harmony in the midst of differences. In addition, this research is based on the fact that NU (Nahdlatul Ulama) massively spreads the notions of moderation through the NU Online website. Starting from this, this study aims to examine how the framing of moderate da'wah discourse in NU Online news texts, describe the concept of moderate da'wah in NU Online news texts, and formulate the characteristics of moderate da'wah and aspects of moderation in NU Online news texts. This study took seven news stories on the NU Online website published in December 2021. Seven news stories were analyzed using the framing analysis technique of the Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki models to examine the methods used by journalists in framing moderate propaganda discourse in detail in news texts based on four structures. namely syntactic structure, script structure, thematic structure, and rhetorical structure. The results of this study found that the framing of moderate da'wah discourse in NU Online news texts is organized into four elements, namely syntactic structure, script structure, thematic structure, and rhetorical structure. Meanwhile, the concept of moderate da'wah is an editorial policy of NU Online based on the khittah nahdliyah. Seven NU Online news texts convey the characteristics of moderation including: prioritizing justice and balance, upholding tolerance, being civilized, accepting tradition, and affirming ukhuwah (brotherhood) and national commitment. The seven news texts emphasize moderation in aspects of state management, aspects of economic action, and aspects of social relations.
