Abstract

Culture is often considered to be inherited from generation to generation and an inseparable part of human beings, so many people tend to think of it as being passed down genetically. Cultural diversity in Indonesia is something that cannot be denied. The number of cultures sometimes raises several problems of its own. One of the problems is the difference between two to more different cultures, therefore it is necessary to adapt when we come to an area that has a different culture. But the problem here is that people always think that eastern students are a little different. But not everyone is like that, however, the actions of some people make the negative stigma still stick strong. Especially when entering a new academic year and many students who come, various problems begin to arise from different accents, food differences, socialization in society and so on. The purpose of this study is to see how the dynamics of conflict and adjustment of NTT students in Tambakbayan, Yogyakarta. To maintain good relations between NTT students and Tambakbayan residents. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, data collection was done by interviewing and collecting data from the media. The validity test of the data is technical triangulation and source triangulation and is analyzed continuously by means of data reduction, data display, data verification. The results of this study indicate that differences in language, habits, and perceptions make it difficult for NTT students to communicate in Yogyakarta. In addition, the existence of stereotypes attached to NTT students such as being retarded, likes to make noise, and prone to committing crimes is the source of the gap between NTT students and students from other regions. ultimately fostering ethnocentric attitudes within each group. It is better for NTT students and Tambak Bayan residents to collaborate so that inter-ethnic relations can improve again and create a sense of comfort.
