Abstract

Discourse develops and grows in the mids of society. Media plays an active role in process of disseminating discourse, one of which is Youtube. One of discourses that are developing in Indonesia society is gender discourses. There are also various gender discourses, one of which is the gender discourses of an Islamic perspective. Talking about gender using an Islamic perspective is important because religion is often used as a tool to discriminate against woman. It takes a figure from among muslim scholars to break the stigma. Quraish Shihab is one of the Indonesian muslim scholars, through his Youtube show entitled Shihab dan Shihab, Quraish Shihab and his daughter Najwa Shihab often talk about issues related to islam, one of which is gender issues. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method and uses the Critical Discourse Analysis of Teun Van Dijk. Teun Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis does not only examine discourse from the text dimension, but also examines discourse from the aspect of cognition and social context. With Teun Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis, the researcher examines the construction of gender discourse in the Islamic perspective contained in the Shihab dan Shihab show. The conclusion of this research, Shihab dan Shihab shows contruct a new discourse, namely analyzing gender through an Islamic perspective, as a solution to various gender problems that afflict muslim society.
