Abstract

The reality that occurs in the order of Islamic education is that Islamic education prioritizes the structural order of the education system that is essential in the implementation of education such as teacher professionalism, methodologies that teach students, and scientific transformation. This study aims to determine the forms and ideas of modernization of Islamic education Maulana Shaykh TGKH. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Majid which is actualized at the Nahdlatul Wathan Educational Institution. This research is considered to have its own urgency to see the criticisms of Islamic education thinkers on traditional phenomena and the stagnation of Islamic education in seeking an educational transformation and educational innovation, especially Islamic education which is an integral part of national education. This research is a type of qualitative research with a character study method (individual life history research) with a socio-historical and biographical approach. Data collection was carried out by interview and documentation methods. Data analysis was carried out in several stages, namely data reduction, data display (data presentation), and drawing conclusions. In testing the validity and validity of the data, the researchers used source triangulation. The results showed that the form of modernization of Islamic education Maulana Shaykh TGKH. Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Majid towards the Islamic education system in West Nusa Tenggara, namely as follows: modernization of the Islamic education system or methodology with the classical system and the madrasa system, modernization of Islamic education institutions with the madrasa system, modernization in the realm of the curriculum by implementing a curriculum based on integration between religious and general sciences and modernization of learning methodologies with contextual and modern styles. For Maulana Shaykh Zainuddin's idea of reforming Islamic education, namely the idea of equal distribution of education for the community, the vision and mission of Islamic education, Islamic education teachers in the perspective of Maulana Shaykh Zainuddin, and LPTQ (Institute for the Development of Tahfidz Qur'an)
