Abstract

After schools reopened due online learning caused to the Covid-19 pandemic, students had extraordinary heterogeneity in terms of learning achievement, including learning outcomes for tahfidz at MITTQUM Surakarta. The problem of learning loss in tahfidz learning is an interesting issue that continues to be studied. School institutions try to design the best learning strategies as a learning loss mitigation measure. This study attempts to describe how the learning loss due to the Covid-19 pandemic in tahfidz learning occurred at MITTQUM Surakarta and how to mitigate it. This study uses the learning loss projection proposed by Kuhfeld which includes scenarios of typical growth, partial absenteeism, Covid-slide and full absenteeism. In the mitigation strategy, this study uses the concept of mitigating learning loss in learning proposed by Carvalho which includes student learning interventions, parental involvement and teacher competency improvement. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The data collection technique was conducted by interviewing four teachers who were selected by purposive sampling technique and 10 students were selected by random sampling; observation of the tahfidz learning method in the classroom and documentation to explore data in the form of documents such as evaluation of learning outcomes, schedules, written rules and other required documents. The results of the study describe that MITTQUM Surakarta experienced learning loss in the form of a decrease in the quality of memorization in the form of students who did not reach the target and lost memorization when depositing again in the juz'iyah exam. This condition is still better than the prediction of learning loss described by Kuhfeld, because the mitigation plan that has been carried out by the school is in the ix form of remediation and reorientation of learning strategies, improving the quality of teachers, good coordination between teachers and parents and efforts to increase motivation that are always given by the teachers to students. Evaluation of learning strategies must always be carried out by schools in order to be able to produce adaptive learning in the development of the learning world. Parents should also take many roles in increasing student motivation and building a conducive atmosphere at home so that children can memorize quietly. Students must also improve self-regulation that can encourage the spirit of memorization.
