Abstract

The recognition of letters and numbers through the medium of picture books is a learning that is implemented in TK TA Pendem 02. The medium of picture books is used by teachers as a source of learning in recognizing letters and numbers. The purpose of this study is to identify the implementation of letter and number learning with picture book media, analyze teachers in using picture books in learning letters and numbers and implications in the implementation of recognizing letters and numbers with picture book media in TK TA Pendem 02. Teachers use picture books on the grounds that children in kindergarten still find it difficult to remember letters and numbers. So that the learning media for picture books containing letters and numbers is one of the media used so that children are able to remember quickly in recognizing letters and numbers. This research used a descriptive qualitative research approach with the research of 22 children and 1 teacher. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis techniques include three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that: (1) Children are able to recognize letters and numbers effectively with picture book media compared to other media. (2) Teachers tend to use picture book media as a learning of letters and numbers in TK TA Pendem 02 because the media is more interesting and easy to understand by early childhood. (3) Implications of picture book media implemented as a learning medium for letters and numbers in accordance with indicators to get the results of 9 children with developing categories, 11 children with developing categories according to expectations and 2 children with very well developed categories.
