Abstract
PT. XYZ is a golf glove manufacturing company. The company's production process has been carried out according to the SOP. However, there are still defective products coming out from the production line. Defect products give out bad impacts on production since the operator has to deal with additional reparation for the product, which results in time and cost ineffectiveness. The SQC method can be utilized as a problem-solving tool in the production process by improving capabilities through variability reduction and achieving process stability. Using the FMEA method, some defects with the highest RPN values were found, namely gross type defects with an RPN of 192, missed type defects with an RPN of 180, and sagging type defects with an RPN of 162. The causes of the defects are generally worn and expired SOP prints. However, each type of defect has its own specific causes: gross type defects are due to the work tables and the sewing machine being improperly cleaned, and the product's plastic container being badly stained; missed type defects are due to the skin material being stiff, operators being careless when folding their thumb and incautious of the stitch spacing; sagging type defects are due to the setting on the sewing machine and lacking tension. Generally, the proposed improvements are adding sewing SOPs and updating the SOP prints. However, for each type of defect, the proposed improvements include the following: gross type defect, which involves making a workbench cleanliness checklist; missed type defect, adding stitch spacing images; and sagging type defect, adding Quality Control and sewing machine repair SOPs. All proposed improvements need each department head's cooperation to run properly. There was a 2% reduction in defective products after the proposed improvements were implemented for a period.
