Abstract

PT. Pismatex is one of the industries that is engaged in the textile industry with the trademark namely Gajah Duduk. This company has been established since 1972 in Pekalongan Regency, Central Java with one of its products, printing sarong. Since the end of 2021, PT. Pismatex wants to increase the production capacity of printing sarong to achieve marketing targets. However, based on field observations and interviews, the production process of printing sarong still contains waste so that the production target cannot be achieved. Therefore, in this study an analysis of the production process was carried out using a Lean Manufacturing approach to identify the type of waste that occurred along with the root causes of the problem and also to provide suggestions for improvements to reduce the waste. In this study, Value Stream Mapping (VSM) was used to map the flow of the entire production process. In addition, the Waste Assessment Model (WAM) is also used to identify the dominant waste and its effect on other wastes. Fishbone diagrams and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) are also used to identify the root causes of problems and also determine the priority of failures related to waste in the company. The results showed that defect waste is the waste that most influences the occurrence of other wastes and inventory waste is the waste that is most caused by other wastes. In addition, the 3 dominant wastes that occur are defect waste with the highest percentage (23.08%), followed by inventory (19,28%), and waiting (13.32%). Based on these results, the proposed improvements are an appeal to take turns doing activities, providing training and guidance on a regular basis, adding printing machine units, and checking and maintaining machines regularly.
