Abstract
Tradition ter-at as a cultural mechanism of the Madurese people has an impact on new perspectives regarding patterns of post-conflict community interaction. The impact is that there is a reciprocal relationship in the ter-ater implementation procession, thus providing space for mutual interaction. This condition is interesting to study in depth to find out that later traditions can form harmony and maintain social relations in society. Therefore, this study will examine the main ideas contained in the ter-at tradition of the Madurese community in West Pontianak Subdistrict and how the construction was built in an effort to knit harmony between the Madurese and Malay ethnic communities after the conflict by adapting the values contained in ter-atter implementation of heterogeneous environments. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The concept for examining this research uses two theories, namely Victor Turner's symbolic anthropology concept and Talcott Parsons' structural functionalism concept. The data collection method used is participatory observation, in which the author takes part in the procession of carrying out the ter-ater tradition which is carried out in January-February and April-May. Furthermore, interviews with Madurese and Malay communities, and continued with data collection through documentation of the symbols or tools and materials used in the ter-ater procession. The results of the study found that the ter-ater implementation procession carried out by the Madurese community had an important role in post-conflict society. The ter-ater tradition plays a role as a medium for interaction between human beings and builds and knits harmony with neighbors who are multi-ethnic and multi-religious by referring to the implementation of the meanings and philosophical values contained in the ter-ater tradition. Thus, through this research the authors found that the internalization of the positive values contained in ter-ater was able to create a space for harmony in diversity. In addition, the use of local wisdom can actually be a social media in creating togetherness after the conflict.
