Abstract

Divorce can occur when the dispute between husband and wife cannot be reconciled in any way, so that the marriage cannot be maintained. The reasons for divorce include economics, domestic violence, infidelity, adultery, leaving one of the parties, and polygamy. However, it turns out that there are other factors that cause constant fights that lead to divorce, namely differences in religious sects. This makes the writer interested in exploring further what are the reasons behind the continuous fights between couples of different religious beliefs, as well as how group fanaticism and family vulnerability are factors in family fights. The type of research conducted by the author is field research, with qualitative methods, the nature of this research is descriptive analytic research, the approach used is a psychological empirical approach with Lewis A. Coser's conflict theory and Glock and Stark's religiosity theory, data sources consist of primary data and secondary data, primary data, namely four men with the status of widowers and five women with the status of widows who divorced partners of different religious beliefs, as well as a judge at the Yogyakarta Religious Court who tried two divorce cases of couples with different religious beliefs. Data collection techniques in this study consisted of interviews and documentation, and the framework used in data analysis was deductive and inductive methods. The results of this study indicate that the reasons behind the continuous fights between couples of different religious beliefs consist of general reasons and specific reasons. The main reasons are: the economy, domestic violence, extended family intervention, and not being respected by your partner. As for the specific reasons, namely: differences in theology, differences in daily practices, demands for sunnah practices, and priority to da'wah. In addition, the fanaticism of religious groups can be a trigger for family fights and can be a support for family fights, which can lead to divorce.
