Abstract

Darussalam Gontor University students not only carry out academic demands but are active in various committee organizations and memorize the Qur'an. Memorizing the Qur'an as much as half a juz per semester is an obligation for all students and is the main requirement for taking the final semester exam. In the process of memorizing the Qur'an, students faced several obstacles so that some of the students in the first tahfidz exam which was held simultaneously 700 students did not pass. This shows that some students can carry out self-regulation in completing memorization and some students are not able to carry out self- regulation so they cannot complete memorization. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to know students' self-motivation, metacognitive regulation, behavioral regulation, supporting and inhibiting factors in completing memorizing the Qur'an at Darussalam Gontor University. This type of research is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach that aims to understand and explain a person's perspective on something. Determination of research subjects using purpose sampling is to determine a specific standard in a population. The data obtained through the process of interviews, observation, and documentation. To test the validity of the data, this research uses the triangulation method. The results of this study are describe: 1) Self-motivation of Darussalam Gontor University students in completing memorization, such as the regulation of giving crowns to parents, getting closer to Allah SWT, following University discipline. 2) Metacognitive regulation of Al-Qur'an memorization students at Darussalam Gontor University, such as arranging schedules, planning, measuring memorizing and evaluating memorization. 3) the behavior of students who memorize the Qur'an, the existence of student initiatives in memorizing, planning goals, developing strategies and evaluations in memorizing, having the ability to work together, and being able to control words and action in life. 4) Supporting factors in self-regulation of students memorizing the Qur'an at Darussalam Gontor University are campus discipline, the purpose of memorizing the Qur'an and the environment. The internal and external obstacles are boredom, laziness, ups and downs in enthusiasm, crowded campus activities, similar verses and the influence of gadgets.
