Abstract

The linkage of PAI and religious moderation in general educational institutions—other than institutions based on Islamic boarding schools or schools within the Ministry of Religion—represents a socio-educational node within the scope of educational institutions. Therefore, social knots woven through a religious moderation scheme will result in social, cultural and religious inclusiveness. Although religious moderation has not been included in the special curriculum in public schools, educational institutions are able to become the right place to sow, cultivate and cultivate diversity sensitivity. Therefore, Islamic Religious Education must be oriented to a holistic and moderate experience. In this case, it must be instilled through the principal's policies and the role of PAI teachers to achieve these goals. The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe the cultivation of the value of religious moderation in SMAN 1 and SMAN 3 Blitar City with the focus of the study 1) the values of religious moderation instilled by PAI teachers, 2) the implementation of the cultivation of the value of religious moderation, and 3) the implications of the value of religious moderation on student attitude. This research is a qualitative research with a case study approach. Data was collected by means of observation, documentation, and interviews. The data sources for this study were the Principal of SMAN 1 and SMAN 3 Blitar City, PAI teachers and several students. The data analysis technique was carried out by data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Checking the validity of this research data is done by triangulation of sources and data collection methods. The results of this study indicate that, 1) the values of religious moderation instilled in SMAN 1 and SMAN 3 Blitar City are tolerance, not fanaticism, fairness, balance, mutual help, harmony, love of peace, courtesy, nationalism, and Indonesian culture, 2) implementation of the value of religious moderation in SMAN 1 and SMAN 3 consists of 2 stages, namely religious moderation knowing and religious moderation feeling. At the religious moderation knowing stage, SMAN 1 Kota Blitar provided knowledge about religious moderation through PAI KBM and School Programs (Friday Sermons and PHBI Events). Meanwhile, at SMAN 3 Blitar City, it was carried out through the PAI KBM process and the School Program (Halaqoh Diniyah and PHBI events). Meanwhile, the religious moderation feeling at SMAN 1 Blitar is carried out through activities outside the classroom in the work programs of the MPK, OSIS, and ROHIS organizations. While at SMAN 3 Blitar City, this is done through PAI KBM and activities outside the classroom carried out by OSIS and ROHIS, 3) The cultivation of the value of religious moderation at SMAN 1 and SMAN 3 Blitar City has a positive impact on the attitudes, there are understanding the inevitability of a religious environment, being willing to make friends with people with different beliefs, being fair with friends who are majority and minority religions, helping each other regardless of their religion, being respectful and not interfering with the worship of their friends, and loving the Indonesian people.
