Abstract

The application of a fluorescence spectroscopy system based on high power UV-LED on formalin-contaminated salted fish has been successfully conducted. This research was motivated by the existence of salted fish producers who provided formalin as a preservative so that the process is faster and more durable. The aim of this study was to apply a high power UV-LED fluorescence spectroscopy system on formalin-contaminated salted fish and to determine its precision and limit of detection. This research was conducted in four stages, namely preparation of tools and materials, making sampels, data collection, and data processing. The preparation of tools was to prepare a set of the first generation of high power UV-LED fluorescence spectroscopy system, while the ingredients are raw salted fish and rough salt. The making sampels was carried out by salting wet fish with rough salt, then giving 0% -50% formalin at 5% intervals. Data collection was carried out using a fluorescence spectroscopy system based on high power UV-LED which was connected directly to the LabVIEW software, each variant of formalin contaminants in salted fish used ten samples with three repetitions for each sample. Data processing to obtain a graph of the results of the formalin contaminant test on salted fish, using Microsoft Excel. The precision value was determined using precision formula and the detection limit was determined using calibration curve formula. The results showed that a fluorescence spectroscopy system based on high power UV-LED has been successfully applied as a method of detecting formalin-contaminated salted fish in which fluorescence was generated at a concentration of 10% to 50%. The system precision was 100% and the detection limit was 12.25% of formalin contaminants.
