Abstract

Most of Indonesian Muslims are adherents of ahlu as-sunnah wal al-jama'ah (Sunni). It is therefore easly to be assumed that Indonesian Muslim business­men are also the adherent ef the Sunni Muslims groups. This paper explores theological belief .rystems ef Ary 'arryah on 1vork, responsibility and 1vealth. Muslim's theological beliefs could explain the motivation of Muslims to 1vork and obtain the 1vealth. Functional!J, a belief that 1vork is a form ef individual responsibility, that 1vork is the 1vqy to gain 1vealth, and that all Muslims must work 1vould drive Muslims to active in productive ventures, instead ef being fatalistic and mushy. Muslims should realize the important of I/lea/th, beca#se qy owning the 1vealth they could act#alize themselves and precf#de them from scoundrel!J conditions, 1vhile at the same time they sho#ld also aivare that the wealth is belong to God.
