Abstract

Doing exercises is an essential part of the scientific learning process, which in practice requires a considerable learning habit and practice. There are various forms and types of exercises available for practical use, including those made available on the internet. This type of exercise available online can be accessed by anyone including students, teachers, and the entire academic community. The flexibility and freedom in creating content on the internet opens up various possibilities for exercises that are not in accordance with the curriculum. Therefore, it is necessary to study its relevance for further use in the classroom as a source of learning materials. The quality of the various exercises provides a gap as well as a challenge in examining and analyzing its feasibility as a way to monitor the exercises available online. This is inseparable from efforts to maintain the quality of education in Indonesia. This research addressed exercises in Natural Sciences (IPA) in Elementary Schools (SD) and Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), which are made available on the internet through Google and YouTube search results. This research aims to answer three questions, namely: what are the Core Competencies (KI) and Basic Competencies (KD) for Science Subject in the 2013 Curriculum? What are the forms, patterns, and characteristics of learning practice on online exercises at SD/MI? and What is the relevance of online exercises on Science subject for SD/MI with the 2013 Curriculum? This study used a qualitative method with descriptive analysis to analyze KI and KD, doing exercises on questions, and the relevance of these online exercises to the 2013 Curriculum. The data were analyzed through descriptive research method to examine online exercises for in-depth understanding by associating them with the existing theoretical aspect. This study looks at the alignment between the 2013 Curriculum on Science subject and the existing Core Competencies (KI) and Basic Competencies (KD) as well as the quality of the questions (entry level of knowledge of Low Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), Middle Order thinking Skills (MOTS), or HOTS) by looking at the level of knowledge in Bloom's taxonomy which has been revised by Krathwool. This study concluded three points, including: First, the science material in the 2013 Curriculum is in accordance with the existing KI and KD covering aspects of knowledge and skills. Meanwhile, the spiritual and social aspects were only seen in a small number of questions (in KSM questions). Second, the forms, patterns, and characteristics of the SD/MI exercises on science subject have various qualities in terms of appearance (external aspect) and content (internal aspect). These exercises are generally displayed in three forms, namely interactive, live view and file download. Third, the SD/MI practice on exercises of Science subjects are relevant to the 2013 Curriculum. This can be seen in the participation of practice questions with SD/MI Curriculum 2013, Science materials which are formulated from KI and KD, and have the quality and level of HOTS, MOTS and LOTS knowledge. Theoretical reflection of the dissertation is that the exercises should be seen as complementary source in learning science at SD/MI. They should train students’ habit in solving natural science materials, most of which are in the form of questions and quizzes. It is expected that various exercise with different qualities can be produced massively on the internet, so that education can be accessed by all levels of society without having to be constrained by costs.
