Abstract

This research is motivated by the development of technology and information society will more easily and quickly get information or news. The media tends to prioritize sensational information by looking at some of the value of the news, such as the value of proximity. In Indonesia, the highest number of people who converted to Islam as of December 31, 2021, was 86.9%. So that if the news is published with the value of proximity (Islamic news) it will have a different effect or opinion on the audience. Because each media will provide a different point of view on how the media will frame a news story. The tempo.co media is no exception, therefore researchers want to see how the online media of newspapers tempo.co report on Islam in January-June 2022. This research is a descriptive research with a framing analysis approach modeled by William A. Gamson and Andre Modigliani. The primary data sources of online media data for newspapers tempo.co and secondary data from literature, books, articles related to the problem under study. With the subject of the online media of tempo.co newspapers and the object of Islamic reporting in January-June 2022. With participatory observation data collection techniques and documentation. The results of this study show First, Tempo.co uses denotative words, which are words that are easy to understand. Tempo also provides a strong composition of several sources who are competent about the events that occurred. But tempo uses connotative words (words that are difficult to understand) for news related to terrorists, so not all readers understand it. Second, the discourse element is an application or application of Tempo.co's vision, regarding the media which is a means to increase public freedom to think and argue in the context of intelligence and difference.
