Abstract

The Madrasa Supervisor is one of the parties who has the authority to supervise, guide and provide advice to the head of the Madrasa in terms of implementing Madrasa management. This is certainly intended so that the management of madrasas can be carried out effectively and efficiently. The condition of madrasah heads who at the time of their appointment had not participated in education and training activities for prospective madrasah heads made them considered to be lacking in understanding their duties and competencies to the fullest. This is something that needs to be considered considering that the head of the madrasa has an important role to be the captain for the madrasa he leads so that the vision, mission and objectives of the madrasa can be achieved optimally. Therefore, managerial supervision which is one of the main roles and tasks of the madrasa supervisor needs to be carried out as an effort to improve the performance of the madrasa head. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of supervisors in improving the performance of madrasa heads through managerial supervision of madrasas at the Dahlan Al-Maymunah Foundation and Darul Arqam Muhammadiyah Garut Islamic Boarding School and to determine the performance of madrasa heads at the Dahlan Al-Maymunah Foundation and Darul Arqam Muhammadiyah Garut Islamic Boarding School. This research is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Informants in the study were the head of MI Al-Khoiriyyah I, the head of MI Al-Khoiriyyah IV, The Head of MTs Darul Arqam Putra, The Head of MTs Darul Arqam Putri, The Head of MA Darul Arqam Putra,The head of MA Darul Arqam Putri and 3 Madrasah supervisors in charge of fostering and supervising the madrasah that became the research seting. Data collection in this study uses techniques: observation, interviews, and documentation studies. The data that has been obtained is then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The researcher used triangulation of source and triangulation of technique in achieving the validity of the data. The results of this study indicate that 1) Madrasah supervisors have carried out their role in improving the performance of madrasah principals, starting from compiling, implementing, evaluating, and conducting follow-up, as well as reporting managerial supervision programs in madrasah by paying attention to various procedures, adjusting to the circumstances and needs of madrasah, and applying the principles of managerial supervision. These programs include coaching madrasah principals, assessing the performance of madrasah principals, and mentoring and training the professionalism of madrasah principals in the Madrasah Working Group (KKM). Supporting factors for the implementation of the supervisor's role are the response of the madrasah principal and support from the foundation or boarding school institution. The response of the madrasah head is in the form of the enthusiasm for learning and the activeness of the madrasah head in participating in activities in the KKM as an effort by the madrasah head to improve their performance and support from the foundation and boarding school institutions in the form of providing permission for the implementation of supervision programs, costs, or other accommodations. While the inhibiting factors are the geographical location of madrasahs that are far apart, the number of assisted madrasahs that exceed the ideal number, and the lack of response from foundations or boarding school institutions, 2) The performance of madrasah principals in Dahlan Al-Maymunah Foundation and Darul Arqam Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School is realized in the fulfillment of 3 madrasah principal duties: managerial duties, supervision duties, and entrepreneurial duties. The performance of each madrasah head is concluded to be in the good category as seen based on the implementation of the three tasks of the madrasah head. From this research, it is recommended to recruit madrasah supervisors who are following the geographical conditions of the madrasa so that the implementation of the supervisor's role in improving the performance of the madrasah head through managerial supervision can be carried out optimally.
