Abstract

This study discusses the phenomenon of families playing online gambling in Karangpucung Village, South Purwokerto District, Banyumas Regency. Along with the development of the times, technology and information also developed which made all activities and mobility easier. But it turns out that technology and information apart from having a positive impact, there are also negative things from this development, namely online gambling. Online gambling is now rife in urban communities and even rural communities. Some husbands in the village play online gambling to meet their family's daily needs. This is a problem because basically the wife or mother does not want her husband or child to gamble, but in this case, the wife contributes to supporting her husband to play online gambling. Based on this, the formulation of the problem in this study is why families choose to play online gambling and how families maintain their marriages. This type of research uses field research. The author conducts research in the field to obtain data or information directly by visiting informants. Research whose main object are interviews with informants who play online gambling. Primary research data conducted by the author is information and direct information or interviews from informants. In this case, the author will conduct interviews with five family members who play online gambling in Karangpucung Village, South Purwokerto District, Banyumas Regency. Secondary data is in the form of books, thesis articles from scientific journals, and other sources related to the problems the author is researching. The data collection process was carried out using the documentation method and the interview method. The data that the author collects are books on family-related theories, structural-functional theory, survival theory, scientific papers, journals, theses, and verification or drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the main factors why families play online gambling are internal and external factors. External factors, namely the impact of Covid 19 on family economic income and the social influence of the community in the village. Then it is the wife and children who become the husband's consideration in choosing to play online gambling as an alternative to making a living. She did this because of the husband's openness and transparency to his family so that the family still survives to this day.
