Abstract

Polygamy has long been a controversial issue, especially in a feminist/gender perspective. Still many societies view polygamy as a negative practice, and often carry a negative stigma on the perpetrator. For example, Hafidin was a mentor of polygamy and a polygamist for reasons that were often a controversy in society. The writer formulated two issue: how a Hafidin polygamy practice and how a Hafidin polygamy was based on the Islamic feminism Amina Wadud. The purpose of this thesis was to critically examine Hafidin polygamy in Islam from the feminist perspective of Amina Wadud. The research library was used to write this thesis. This thesis relies on two different data sources: sources both primary and secondary. The interview video of Hafidin about polygamy that can be found on the internet is the primary source, while all of the literature that supports or is related to the title is the secondary source. Research suggest that first, the practice of polygamy practiced by Hafidin for practicing Friday polygamy that allows for four marriages and is able to practice polygamy. By polygamy he could apply the meaning of happiness within a polygamous family. It has caused much controversy in society beause of some reasons that fair meaning is sufficient only in material form, not need for a wife’s oermission for polygamous husband and others. Secondary, the principle of methodology built in the feminism of Islam amina wadud there are three: refer to gender concepts, reject patriarkhi, and classifications of qur’an verses on polygamy. For wadud, since the concept of gender justice points to the difference between the male and the female, the experience and perspective of the female need to get equal portions of the male. The basis used in the Koran for human dignity and dignity is its resilience. Polygamy on the grounds that lust was out of control, wadud responded that such a reason was definitely inappropriate for a Muslim husband to make, as it indicates a lack of quality of faith. However, in the Koran in many verses it often commands the control of its lust, both to men and to women. The matter of justice is also the focus of the attention of most modern interpreters interested in the subject of polygamy. Justice in this regard is not only material matters but also non-matter that must be addressed.
