Abstract

The roles as santri and students who lived in Pondok Pesantren often intersect or even beat each other. Individuals with dual roles are prone to experience difficulties and pressures in carrying out their duties and obligations in daily life or what is called dual role conflict. This dual role conflict needs to be addressed so that it does not cause prolonged negative impacts. One of the things that can be done is to apply coping of stress. This study aims to find out the picture of the dual role conflict experienced by new students at the Al-Munawwir Komplek Q Islamic Boarding School Krapyak Yogyakarta and how the coping response is used. This research is a type of field research using qualitative descriptive methods and data collection methods in the form of interviews, observations and documentation. This research was conducted on 3 informants who were new santri of the Al Munawwir Komplek Q Islamic boarding school who also had the status of students and experienced dual role conflicts. The results show that some of the problems commonly faced by new students who experience dual role conflicts include: Difficulty in managing time, fatigue, the role of santri not running optimally, strict cottage regulations and jara between the cottage and the distant campus. There are copings of stress that are used that are problem focused coping, namely: planful problem solving, confrontative coping, and seeking social support and emotional focused coping namely: positive reappraisal, accepting responsibility, self controlling and distancing and escape avoidance.
