Abstract

Empowering orphans and the poor through the utilization of zakat funds is an effort to optimize the high potential of zakat funds in Indonesia and an effort to improve the welfare of orphans and the poor through the fulfillment of the rights of these children. Orphans and the poor are community groups that require great attention in various aspects of life because children are part of the successors of the nation's struggle so they need to be given a decent livelihood in order to create a quality generation. This is what makes the Mizan Amanah Yogyakarta Foundation create an empowerment program for orphans and the poor by utilizing zakat funds. Based on this presentation, this study tries to explore information about the strategies and results of empowering orphans and the poor through the utilization of zakat funds at the Mizan Amanah Foundation Yogyakarta. The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Data collection techniques in this study used observation, interviews and documentation. For data validity is done by comparing the results of observations, interviews and documentation. Furthermore, the analysis techniques used in this study went through four stages, including data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results showed that the strategy used by Mizan Amanah Foundation Yogyakarta in empowering orphans and the poor through the utilization of zakat funds is by providing formal care and education, additional education at the foundation and self-development activities. The result of this upbringing and education is to make children become more disciplined and orderly individuals. In addition, children's knowledge and skills also increase.
